SINGAPORE AIRLINES MRO EXPOSURE

I  had the opportunity to visit the Singapore Airlines (SIA) hangars and gain valuable exposure to the real world Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) industry through my deepening elective tracks. It was an eye opening experience to step into a professional aviation environment and observe how aircraft maintenance operations are carried out with precision, discipline, and strong safety practices.

During the visit, we participated in hands on practical sessions and assessments related to aircraft ground handling and electrical maintenance practices & Gas Turbine Operation and Maintenance. Some of the key areas we were exposed to included aircraft ground handling procedures, operational safety practices, electrical wiring techniques, troubleshooting methods, engine walkaround which included identifying and inspecting the engine parts and the use of maintenance tools, testing equipment, and inspection procedures.

Through these activities, I developed a greater appreciation for the importance of attention to detail, responsibility, and teamwork within the aerospace industry. Working through practical tasks strengthened my problem solving and adaptability skills while improving my ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real engineering scenarios.

Interacting with instructors and observing industry professionals also improved my professional communication and technical understanding of maintenance operations within an MRO environment. Overall, the experience reinforced my interest in the aerospace industry and allowed me to further develop valuable soft skills such as communication, teamwork, professionalism, and critical thinking through practical industry exposure.
